Professor Brain's tip for routing your DUAL GRIPS cables

Installing heated grips is good. Connecting them correctly is even better!
Because a poorly planned power supply is like a badly fastened helmet: it always ends up causing major problems.

So, to avoid headaches, here are the golden rules for a clean, safe, and effective electrical wiring.

1 - The main rule: the + after ignition
Rule number one: Never connect the positive directly to the battery!
Why? Because if you forget to turn off your grips, your battery will silently drain... And a bike that won't start is like a cold pizza: nobody likes that.

Pro tip: Connect to a source after ignition (also called "accessory under key"). That way, your grips will only activate when the bike is running.

Instructions:

  • Locate a positive wire in the main harness (often used for lights or indicators).

  • Check that it is only active with the key turned, using a voltage tester.

2 - The negative is easy: directly to the battery
The negative can go directly to the negative terminal of the battery. No risk of current leakage or unwanted discharge.

Professor Brain’s advice:

  • Use a well-tightened terminal or washer to avoid any false contact. A perfect tightness ensures a reliable connection!

3 - Route cables like a pro
Once your connections are in place, you need to route the cables neatly.
Leaving them loose risks pinching, cutting, or even blocking the steering... And that’s a nightmare (or worse).

Professor Brain’s tip:

  • Follow the main harness as much as possible: it’s designed to avoid risky areas.

  • Secure your cables with plastic ties (the famous zip ties), but don’t over-tighten to avoid crushing the wire.

  • Avoid moving parts, especially around the steering column! Make sure nothing is pinched when you turn the bars fully.

  • Leave slack on the throttle side! Even if it looks untidy, it is crucial that the right cable has some play. Too tight, it may snap in use!

Final test:
Once everything is installed, twist the throttle fully and release it: if it returns smoothly without forcing, everything is good!

4 - Finishing: protect your cables
Well-protected wiring means a lasting installation.

Essentials:

  • Heat shrink tubing: a real armour for your connections, protecting them from vibrations and moisture.

  • Quality insulating tape: perfect for reinforcing exposed parts and preventing water ingress.

Professor Brain’s word: Well connected is half installed!
Clean and precise wiring guarantees your heated grips will work perfectly and your bike will stay in top shape.

Take the time to do it right, and your electrical system will repay you a hundredfold!
